Recorder’s Office Unveils New Electronic Recording Service

Porter-CountyPorter County Recorder Jon Miller is pleased to announce the implementation of electronic recording or eRecording as a new service that their office provides to the public.

eRecording automates document examination, fee collection, image retention, data processing and eliminates the recording of paper document. eRecording allows the office to electronically record documents securely and efficiently via the Internet.

The quickest way to the courthouse is to not have to go there at all. eRecording will allow document submitters the ability to electronically transmit their documents instead of using couriers and express or overnight mail. eRecording results in greater efficiency and better use of existing resources. Implementation of eRecording, coordinated by our software vendor Fidlar Technologies with service currently provided by ERecording Partners Network (ePN) and Simplifile, will not require any additional county funding.

The Recorder’s Office will be able to electronically record deeds, mortgages and other documents in cooperation with the Porter County Assessor and County Auditor. Since eRecordings are processed electronically, the need to carry those documents around the building between offices will be eliminated.

Benefits of eRecording

  • The manual process associated with paper processing is reduced from days to just minutes.
  • eRecording wins “The Race to the Courthouse” - eDocuments beat ones submitted via the mail or a courier
  • Direct cost savings in postage, overnight shipping and delayed processing
  • Fewer rejections and faster corrections: eRecording eliminates rejections for incorrect fees. Rejected documents can be resubmitted in hours vs. days.

"Our recording process will be streamlined via the implementation of eRecording, thus enabling us to redistribute our workforce. We will optimize the management of the upcoming future projects that will enhance public access to all of the public records that our office maintains."

"The ultimate benefit of eRecording is providing enhanced service to the public. A more efficient recording process reduces the turnaround time on processing documents, which in turn expedites the return of important personal documents back to the public."
