It didn’t take long before the first of many records were broken at the today’s girls’ swimming and diving Sectional meet! Chesterton’s time of 1:47.17 in the 200m Medley Relay was the first of seven sectional records sent packing during the course of the day. The 200m Individual Medley, 50 yard Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 200m Free Relay, 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke events also had new Sectional benchmarks set today.
The Chesterton Trojans took away first place with 571 points, with Valparaiso coming in second with 360.5 points and Portage taking 3rd with a score of 244.
The 500m freestyle saw Trojan teammates Amy Socha and Trenee Fancherkeller swimming stroke for stroke through the first 250m when Socha took a slight lead. She then opened up on the 15th lap and won the race.
La Porte Coach Bart Frank was proud of his Slicers saying, “We’ve had our best swims so far, except for two. The girls have worked hard and are doing awesome!”
The 100m Backstroke was a great race with teammates Cara Kroeger and Caylee Casbon pushing each other. Kroeger came out on top with one of the sectional records of the day.
