For the Love of Art Street Fair is coming next Saturday, August 28th from 10am to 5p.m. on 119th Street, downtown Whiting, Indiana. It will be the perfect time to find unique and unusual items for Christmas gifts and get a chance to see art being created right before your very eyes.
Fine artists and craftsmen will demonstrate their skills and place their works of art up for sale. Interaction and discussions with the artists is highly encouraged.
“We hope this year’s Fair will continue the fun, creativity and conversation with artists that began four years ago. It’s a great idea, the brain child of Kathy Winsberg (Full Circle Art); our group hopes to keep the Fair going strong for many years to come” said Sue Mills-Groninger of 119th Street Artists.
Demonstrations will include water color, acrylic, oil painting, carving, photography, jewelry, wire wrapping, beading, pottery, sculpture, wood work, needle crafts and basket weaving among other arts. Artists from as far away as Huntington, Indiana will be present. There are new vendors every year and events for kids as well.
Plan to have lunch there as there will be food vendors and take some time to sit and enjoy the live music planned for the event. Jazz flutist Steve Flowers will perform from 11:00 until 2:00 and Grammy Contender, Keenan Baxter will play from 3:00 until closing.
Don’t miss this opportunity to view artists at work. In addition it will also be a lovely day to enjoy your own hometown, with hands-on Tie Dye crafts for the kids, sidewalk chalk art, and art projects for all ages and tastes.
The same day as the For the Love of Art Fair, the first Alternative Power Initiative is sponsoring a ‘Race for the Future’, challenging inventors to create a vehicle that can run on alternative energy for five miles; the grand prize will be $7,000.00. So there will be creativity of all sorts on display in Whiting that day, and plenty of time to check out both events.
The annual festival For the Love of Art Street Fair, now in its 5th year, is sponsored and brought to you by the 119th Street Artists, a non-profit group dedicated to supporting the Arts.
