Purdue North Central Welcomes New Faculty Members

Purdue University North Central welcomes new faculty members for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. They are: PNC

Bruce Garwood - clinical assistant professor of Nursing. He earned his associate degree in nursing from Purdue University North Central and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Nursing from University of Phoenix.

He most recently held positions as a clinical instructor at PNC and as a staff nurse at both St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Michigan City and LaPorte Hospital and Health Services in LaPorte, Indiana.

Jan Garwood - visiting assistant professor of Nursing. She received her associate degree and bachelor's degree in nursing from Purdue University North Central. She served as a clinical instructor for the Practical Nursing Program at Brown Mackie College in Merrillville and she was a limited-term lecturer for PNC.

David Hay - assistant professor of Accounting. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; an M.B.A. from Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management; master's degrees from the University of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. & M.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

He taught at PNC, Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend and University of Chicago.

Robert Hnida - visiting assistant professor of Nursing. He earned his associate degree, bachelor's degree and master's degree in Nursing from Purdue University Calumet. He has been employed as a staff nurse for the Methodist Hospital emergency department in Gary.

Jean Q. Jiang - continuing lecturer of Electrical & Computer Technology. She holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, China and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico.

Most recently she was a guest lecturer at PNC since January 2009.

Bethany T. Lee - continuing lecturer of English. She earned her bachelor's s degree and master's degree from the University of Texas and Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. Most recently, she was an assistant professor of English at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.

Dominic A. Micer - assistant professor of English. He received his bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va.; his master's degree from the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vt. and his Ph.D. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

He was an assistant professor of English at University of Southern Indiana in Evansville.

Paul C. Miller - associate professor of Secondary Education. He was granted his bachelor's degree, master's degree, Ph.D. and a certificate in English as a Second Language (ESL) from Purdue University, West Lafayette.

He most recently held positions at Tech University in Lubbock, Texas as an associate professor and chair of the Bilingual Education and Diversity Studies Program.

Lucia A. Schroeder - visiting assistant Professor of Education. She holds a bachelor's degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., a master's degree from North Dakota State University and a Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota.

Jessica A. Thomas - continuing lecturer of Chemistry. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is a Ph.D. (candidate) at the University of Pittsburgh.

Most recently she was a coordinator, substitute teacher and teaching assistant at the University of Pittsburgh.

Shengyong Zang -assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, China and a Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Ky.

He was a postdoctoral scholar in the University of Louisville Mechanical Engineering Department.
