Purdue Calumet Sweeps IUN On the Road, 3-0

PUC-PeregrinsGabrielle Martin had a match-high 10 kills and Haley Smith had 30 assists to lead the Purdue University Calumet volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over nonconference opponent Indiana University Northwest Wednesday night.

The Peregrines (8-14) defeated the RedHawks (3-23) for the third time this season, winning 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 at the Savannah Center in Gary.

Martin (Kankakee Valley, Ind./Kankakee Valley) added seven digs as she swung for a .304 attack percentage, connecting on 10 kills on 23 attempts. Muhammad (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township/Kishwaukee) had nine kills on 18 attacks to hit .444 and added 10 digs.

Freshman Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County) added six kills on nine attacks (.667) to help the Peregrines finish the night with a stellar .240 team attack percentage. Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) added seven kills and nine digs and senior Kelly Duke (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) added eight kills off the bench.

Haley Saksa and LaChelle Smith each had six kills and Hayleigh Scolley added 14 assists to lead the RedHawks in the loss.

Purdue Calumet returns to play Friday when the Peregrines travel to Michigan to take on Rochester College in a nonconference matchup.
