Behind four players in double figure-scoring, the No. 16 Purdue University Calumet women’s basketball team never trailed in a 75-51 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity Christian College Wednesday.

Junior Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) led the way with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists and senior Jada Buggs (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) added 13 points for the Peregrines (15-4, 8-3), who captured their third-straight victory. Junior Darien Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) added 12 points and sophomore Katie Wampler (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottsburg) added 11 points and five boards.

The Peregrines jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first frame, as Buggs and Deno were near-perfect from the field, as Buggs shot 3-for-3 and Deno was 3-for-4 to give each seven points early. The lead extended to 44-23 at the half, as Purdue Calumet shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the field in the first 20 minutes, led by 18 points from Deno. The junior guard who found her touch from deep, making 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point line.

Utilizing their bench in the second half, Purdue Calumet led by as many as 28 (72-44) after a Kaylee Hardy (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) 3-pointer from the wing.

The Peregrines dominated in the paint, outscoring the Trolls 38-16, and won the battle on the boards, 45-29.

Off the bench, sophomore Jessica Kiser (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) pulled down a game-high nine boards and added four assists, sophomore Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) added five points and three rebounds for Purdue Calumet, which won its 10th-straight game over the Trolls.

Bethany Jansma led Trinity Christian (0-18, 0-10) with 10 points and Allie Paluchniak added nine points in the setback.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Saturday, when the Peregrines travel to the NAIA’s No. 2-ranked team, St. Xavier. Game time is set for 1 p.m. CT in Chicago.

Sebree, Rader Lead Purdue Calumet to 83-61 Win over Trinity Christian
The Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball used their best shooting performance of the season to take down Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Trinity Christian, 83-61, Wednesday night.

The Peregrines (8-11, 2-9 CCAC) were led by junior guard LaBradford Sebree (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo), who recorded 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, which marked the ninth time this season Sebree scored at least 20 points in a game.

Senior big man Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) notched 14 points while Chandler Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) recorded 11 points thanks to a trio of three-point field goals to headline the Peregrine leaders.

After a Rader layup put the Black and Gold ahead 18-9 with 13:25 remaining in the opening half, the Peregrines outside shooting propelled them to a 44-26 advantage late in the first half.

Daulton Albanese (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) rattled off a pair of trifectas with streamlined the Peregrines outside shooting to 77.8 percent in the first half.

Purdue Calumet would finish the half strong and took a 50-30 lead heading in to the break.

Midway through the second half, the Peregrines jumped out to their largest lead of the game, after a Dayvohn Braxton (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) layup gave Purdue Calumet a 67-36 advantage.

The Trolls would try and mount a comeback, but the Peregrines large lead and tight defense proved to be too much for TCC, as the Black and Gold came away with an 83-61 victory.

The Peregrines shot a season-best 64.7 percent from the field, to go along with 50 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Saturday, Jan.16, as they travel to Chicago, Ill. to face off with CCAC foe St. Xavier at 3:00 p.m.

Ryan Hayes Adds Trio to 2016-17 Purdue Calumet Class
Purdue University Calumet Head Men’s Soccer coach Ryan Hayes added to his 2016 recruiting class with the recent signings of Miguel Palacios, Philipp Tolxdorf and Jacob Hill.

“In addition to their athletic prowess, all three players bring excellent academic profiles to our school and soccer program," head coach Ryan Hayes said about his new additions to the squad.

Miguel Palacios
Dyer, Ind. - Lake Central High School
Palacios, a multi-year letter winner for the Indians, was a member of back-to-back sectional champion teams, while leading LC to a regional championship in his senior season.

“Miguel is technical and reads the play very well," Hayes said. "He can shut down an opponent as well as contribute to our possession based style when building from the back.”

From Dyer, Ind., Palacios also earned Post Tribune All-Area honorable mention honors while being named team defensive MVP.

The son of Javier and Kelly Palacios, Miguel plans to major in Computer Engineering next fall.

Philipp Tolxdorf
Fernandina Beach, Fla. - Fernandina Beach High School
The multi-year letter winner for Fernandina Beach High School led the Pirates to a trio of district championships, and a regional quarterfinalist during his junior campaign.

“Philipp is a technician and links play between the lines really nicely," Hayes said. "He plays quickly and is always moving to support the ball. Philipp is a nice asset to our midfield.”

Tolxdorf was named team MVP in his senior season, was named an AP scholar with distinction and was a member of the National Honor Society.

The son of Nathalie Wu, Phillipp plans to major in engineering next fall.

Jacob Hill
Fort Wayne, Ind. - Carroll High School
The 6-foot-3 blank assisted the Chargers to a sectional finalist during his senior season.

“Jacob is very athletic and has a strong presence on the field," Hayes said. "He is strong in the air and commands his area very well. He is very determined and likes to win.”

Hill was named to the All-District First-Team and received All State Academic honors. He was also named team captain and MVP by his teammates during his senior campaign.

The son of Dave and Beth Hill, Jacob plans to major in Engineering next fall.

The trio joins a Peregrines team that had its best season to date in 2015, as Purdue Calumet finished with a 12-5-2 overall record and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history.
