Purdue Calumet ‘Bash on the Blacktop’ Features Music of Bear Hands, April 24, 2015

student-activities-bannerThe sounds of Bear Hands, Jump Smokers and Open Your Eyes will infiltrate the Purdue University Calumet campus when the popular, alternative rock bands perform an outdoor campus concert from open to the general public 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, April 24.

About the bands
Headlining act Bear Hands, described by critics as performing American post-punk and indie rock, became known for its 2014 top 10 hit, “Giants,” on the alternative song chart.

Chicago-based Jump Smokers, a crossover dance music headliner, has released more than 100 remixes that have earned various listings on American club music charts.

Opening act Open Your Eyes, previously known as Athel, has a strong local rock following, as many of the band’s members hail from northwest Indiana.

Held at south end of campus
The music fest will be held at the south end of campus in the parking lot behind Peregrine Hall, 2440 173rd St. Food and beverages will be on sale. Outside food and beverages will not be permitted on campus.

“These groups not only are nationally known, but Jump Smokers and Open Your Eyes have local ties,” Purdue Calumet Assistant Director of Campus Life Debbie Bachmann said. “For a low price, people can hear some great music and be part of an exciting event. We are pleased to be able to bring such big names to our campus and northwest Indiana.”

Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students from any Purdue campus displaying their student identification card.

Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online at www.purduecal.edu/studentactivities.

Purdue Calumet is a smoke-free campus. Narcotics, alcohol, firearms, bags of any sort and coolers also are not allowed on campus. Other information can be obtained by phoning the university’s Office of Student Activities at 219/989-2369.

The concert is sponsored by Purdue Calumet’s Office of Campus Life, Housing & Residential Education and the Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central Student Government Associations. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside the gymnasium located in the Fitness & Recreation Center.
