NCC-tf-finals-2014Chesterton 7, La Porte 4 (Baseball)

The Trojans (10-10, 6-5) prevailed behind three strikeouts in five innings pitched by Matt Kubacki. Tyler Sufana (3-for-4) and Corey Rusboldt (2-for-4) pitched in offensively in the Chesterton win.

Drew Jones went 3-for-3 for La Porte, who dropped to 13-9, 5-6.

Crown Point 4, Portage 1 (Softball)

Kaitlin Doud went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, but it was not enough for Portage, who fell in the Duneland Athletic Conference game. Kiley Jones added a triple for the Lady Indians.

Crown Point also won the junior varsity game, 3-1.

Lake Central 148, Valparaiso 166, Merrillville 203 (Boys Golf)

Lake Central’s Matt Meneghetti was the individual medalist, shooting a 33 at Palmira Golf Course in St. John. Nick Good added a 37 and Ryan Dehlkamp a 38 for the Indians.

Valparaiso was led by Michael Gallinatti and Nate Letnich, who each shot 40s. Merrillville’s best performance came from Kyle Krause, who shot a 48.

Valparaiso 4, Portage 1 (Girls Tennis)

Emily Sajda won at No. 2 singles for Portage. The JV match ended in a 4-4 tie.

Duneland Athletic Conference Meet (Girls Track)

Portage seniors Ashley Sosbe (discus) and Paige Pizer (800 meter run) finished as individual champions as the Indians finished sixth as a team. Sosbe was named the MVP of the field events.

Munster 174, Kankakee Valley 135.5, Hobart 110 (Girls Track)

Host Munster prevailed in the NCC conference championship.

Munster 138, Hobart 131, Kankakee Valley 110.5 (Boys Track)

The Mustangs made it a sweep on Tuesday.
