Makayla Ferrari went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a triple for Valparaiso, who erased a three-eun first inning deficit in the season opening contest.

Kathy Minko (3-for-4) and Olivia Vinyard (2-for-4) also had multiple hits for the Vikings.

The Vikings won despite committing five errors thanks to three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Kennedy Minko had a complete game on the mound while striking out one batter in earning the victory.

Andrean 12, Portage 8 (Softball)

Dalton Minor hit a two-run home run and Kaitlin Doud added a solo shot and a double, but it was not enough for Portage, who lost the season opening contest in Merrillville.

Kiley Jones and Alexis Johnson each had two hits including a double for Portage. Jones added two RBI in the loss.

INDIAN HEADPortage 5, Elkhart Memorial 4 (Baseball)

Kevin Jones paced the Indians with three hits, while Chris Klenk added two hits and a pair of stolen bases in the season opening win.

Hunter Thorn ripped an RBI triple in the win as Hunter Kraynak picked up his first varsity win on the mound.

Portage will play Hanover Central on Wednesday.
