Powers Health to host a hip and knee pain presentation

Hip or knee pain keeping you from the activities you love? Take the first steps to recovery by attending, “Get Moving with Mako.”

Join Jonathan Edgington, MD, and Michael Knesek, MD, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Powers Health Rehabilitation Center, 10215 Broadway, Crown Point.

The fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons will discuss new technology for hip and knee replacement, including Mako SmartRobotics,® which transforms the way joint replacement surgery is performed.

“Our surgical team has precision at our fingertips,” said Knesek, who completed the first Mako procedure at St. Mary Medical Center in 2018. “The robotic arm is not performing the surgery, but it is assisting the surgeon in performing the procedure in the most precise and efficient manner.”

The Mako System uses a virtual 3D model to allow surgeons to personalize each patient’s surgical plan so there is a clear course of action for the implant.

“With traditional hip replacements, we plan the surgery in two dimensions,” Edgington said. “This three-dimensional model allows us to digitally template the procedure ahead of time. These advances in the technology allow us to plan in great detail before surgery.”

Light refreshments and educational information will be available at this free event. To register, call 219-836-3477.
