St. Mary Medical Center Sleep Medicine Services has started welcoming patients at a new Winfield location.
The sleep center occupies space at Powers Health St. Mary Medical Center Outpatient Center, 10607 Randolph St.
“Quality sleep is crucial to good overall health,” said Janice Ryba, CEO of St. Mary Medical Center. “By bringing physician sleep specialists and advanced testing equipment to our Winfield location, Powers Health offers studies and analyses to help patients achieve restful sleep.”
Powers Health, an accredited member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, also offers sleep evaluations at locations in East Chicago and Munster. Patients need a physician’s order for sleep testing.
“Suffering from a sleep disorder can hinder people from living a healthy, full life,” said Dr. Bilal Safadi, a Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine specialist with Powers Health Medical Group. “Good sleep is essential to body and mind wellness.”
Sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and circadian rhythm disorders are some common sleep-related conditions. Those who may benefit from a sleep study include people experiencing daytime sleepiness, nightmares, obesity, teeth grinding, loud snoring, bed wetting and problems concentrating.
Most sleep conditions are treatable, and Powers Health’s team of medical providers are ready to evaluate your sleep habits and support your return to healthy sleep.
The Winfield location features eight sleep evaluation rooms. The rooms resemble bedrooms, complete with a nightstand, desk and television. Each patient also has a private bathroom.
While the patient sleeps, a technician monitors from an adjacent room. The sleep study findings are interpreted by a physician specializing in Sleep Medicine and shared with the referring physician and patient, along with recommendations for follow-up care.
