Issue 8: January 25, 2013

In January, senior Nicki Monahan took over sports headlines within the Pow Wow, on PortageLife and across Northwest Indiana as she approached, and eventually passed, the school’s individual career scoring record. The primary sports story in this issue updates Monahan’s quest for the record. Other stories inside this edition of the Pow Wow include PHS reevaluating safety procedures, girls basketball coach Chris Seibert losing over 100 pounds and a Meet the Indian profile on the winner of an essay contest.

Issue 9: February 8, 2013

Three Portage High School seniors were recognized for outstanding accomplishments in the Feb. 8 edition of the Pow Wow. Tyler Demko and Cody Spoolstra finished atop the senior class as co-valedictorians, while Eric Mesarch was named the 2013 Portage High School Outstanding Young Man. Plus, the wrestling team sends 10 wrestlers to semistate, girls basketball player Alyssa Tampier is named the Pow Wow Most Valuable Player and “A Day in the Life Of” article profiling attendance secretary Debbie Smith.

Issue 10: March 1, 2013

The Portage High School variety show draws its largest crowd in years. The cast is announced for the 2013 PHS Musical, “Legally Blonde: The Musical.” The school elects to offer Zumba classes next year, an ACES preview and the Legend Yearbook is chosen as a Hoosier Star Finalist. All that and much more is inside Issue 10 of the Pow Wow.

Issue 11: March 21, 2013

The final issue before Spring Break provides complete coverage of the Portage gymnastics state championship, with three different articles regarding the gymnastics team. Distinguished Young Woman Rachel Stewart reflects on her experience at the state competition, the freshman cafeteria receives upgrades and a full spring sports preview.
