Porter Health System Sponsors Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP®) Screening

national-kidney-foundationPorter Health System will sponsor a Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP®) presented by the National Kidney Foundation. The screening will be held from 10 am to 2 pm, on Saturday, April 28, at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Campus, 1401 Calumet Avenue in Valparaiso.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, the KEEP screening is for those at increased risk of developing kidney disease, such as individuals over the age of 18 with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.

Services provided to participants at the KEEP screening include: Blood pressure, height, weight and waist circumference. Additionally, blood and urine tests to check for signs of diabetes and kidney disease include: blood sugar (diabetes), Hemoglobin (anemia), urine dipstick for albumin to creatinine ratio (protein in urine), serum creatinine to measure how well kidneys are filtering blood, Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate to test for kidney function, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.
