The Porter County Sheriff’s Office recently donated 44 portable two-way radios to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. The donation comes after the Sheriff’s Office purchased new radios.
Vice President of Club Services Mark Jones said the radios are used in the Clubs as part of the organization’s commitment to the safety of Club youth. “These are excellent radios, and our Club staff can use them to communicate with each other across our Club facilities and during outside programming,” Jones said.
Porter County Sheriff David Reynolds said the radios were cleared of any existing programming and then donated to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana because the organization had a significant need for them. “When you look at the geographic area that Boys & Girls Clubs covers and the number of kids they serve each day, it made a lot of sense. We know the radios will be put to good use and help them keep the kids safe,” Reynolds said.
The donation was spearhead by Duneland Boys & Girls Club Director Ron Ranta and was approved by the Porter County Commissioners.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana President/CEO Ryan Smiley thanked the sheriff and stated that the radios were already in the Clubs and being used. “We’re so grateful to the Porter County Sheriff’s office and Sheriff Reynolds,” Smiley said. “The safety of our Club kids is our top priority, and these radios are a valuable tool in making sure we’re doing everything we can to keep them safe.”
