EMPLOYMENT STATUS
This position is seasonal consisting of 9 weeks in June-August rotating from day camp counselor to occasional sunrise and sunset camp counselor. The camp week runs Monday-Friday with day camp hours of 9am-3pm and sunrise and sunset camp hours of 7-9am and 3-6pm. Overnights are also worked on occasion for an additional stipend. They run from 3pm Thursday to 9am Friday.
Essential Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of Program Director
- Act as a role model in your attitude and behavior setting a good example to campers and others in regards to general camp procedures and practices such as sanitation, schedule and sportsmanship.
- Lead and assist in regularly creating, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating safe, fun, and effective camp activities for all areas of camp appropriate for your age group.
- Act as primary caregiver for each of your campers assuring that campers are properly supervised at all times including small group environment, and large, all-camp events. Be alert to the campers needs.
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures as needed using appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Recognize and respond to opportunities for group problem solving and provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success while at camp.
- Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being, and happiness of campers. Be aware of any allergies and/or meds for all campers.
- Prepare for, supervise, assist, and participate actively and eagerly in all aspects of the camper’s day.
- Arrive before programs to setup and speak with participants and/or parents and guests.
- Stay the necessary time needed after programs to clean up.
- Encourage a fun and imaginative learning environment creating scenarios and scripts to enhance the experience of camp activities and events.
- Follow the Camp Funset weekly schedule and ensure your campers are where they need to be when they need to be there.
- Keep supervisor up-to-date on scheduling and evaluation feedback including concerns, updates, and challenges.
- Attend camp staff training which is a weeklong, prior to the start of camp.
- Attend and help facilitate scheduled overnight campouts and field trips.
- Be familiar with park rules, and aware of the safety of campers.
- Know, understand, portray, and share Camp Funset rules, policies, and traditions.
- Create and keep civil relationships with fellow staff members.
- Fulfill other administrative and essential roles and duties as necessary or as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Requirements
- Experience working with youth of all ages levels.
- Must complete mandatory staff training held prior to camp start date.

- Current CPR, AED and first aid certification.
- Ability to pass a sheriff’s department background check.
Physical Effort and Work Environment
- Ability to work inside and outside in normal weather conditions. Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and hike on various terrains.
- Exposure to soiling of clothing or skin surface.
- Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency.
