Porter County Law Enforcement No Shave November Raises $15,000 to Support Community

Porter-County-Law-Enforcement-No-Shave-November-2016Law enforcement officers throughout Porter County participated in No Shave November to raise $15,000 to benefit their community.

Working with United Way of Porter County, the Porter County Sheriff’s Department during the month of November allowed officers and employees to grow beards and mustaches to raise funds to support the more than 61,000 residents that benefit from United Way of Porter County programs.

“The guys love this fundraiser,” said Jeff Biggs, Chief Deputy for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department. “We could not be more proud of them taking up the challenge.”

More than 120 participated in the second annual event. They also challenged other area law enforcement departments to join in the fundraising effort, with Valparaiso Police Department, Kouts Police Department and Ogden Dunes Police Department taking the challenge.

“Supporting those that serve our county is very important,” Kim Olesker, President/CEO for United Way of Porter County shared. “When someone chooses to give to United Way, they are choosing to keep their community safe and healthy through programs that support law enforcement efforts.”

United Way of Porter County supports 65 programs in the community that cover a variety of services, including life skills development, mental and behavior counseling, mentorship programs, hospice care, Meals on Wheels, disaster relief and more. These programs support more than 40% of county residents.

This year, No Shave November funds will be doubled thanks to a matching grant United Way of Porter County received. To donate or learn more about United Way of Porter County programs, visit UnitedWayPC.org.
