Portage Tribe 10U went undefeated 5-0 this weekend at the Schererville Baseball Memorial Weekend Tournament.
In the championship game against Dyer, we were down 3 to 1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the bats came alive to win the game. After our lead-off hitter reached base on an error, Portage Tribe 10U’s Murderers’ Row strung together four consecutive line-drive base hits to win the game. The team as a whole had a great weekend.
Manager and Head Coach Jim Wilkie said, “This is a team of very talented 10-year-olds. We played as a team, a family, and that wins tournaments. That is what the Tribe organization creates, a true, close-nit family. The Future of Portage Baseball is looking great. I am so proud of these boys. Great weekend, great victory, great team. Roll Tribe Roll.”
Coach Wilkie attributes a large portion of their success this weekend to their superior and outstanding pitching performance. The pitching staff dominated their opponents by allowing less than 3 hits per game, striking out ten hitters per game, and an ERA of .799 for tournament.

3rd game…Won 6 to 0 against Morgan Township
4th game…Won 4 to 2 against Schererville Piper
5th game (championship) won against Dyer Dirtbags 4 to 3
