The Portage Tribe 10-and-under traveling baseball team took home a victory at the Du Quion, Illinois State Fairgrounds Championship this weekend. The boys played a great tourney, coming in first out of 12 teams participating from all over Indiana and Illinois.
The Tribe went 4 and 0 and took home the championship with an 8 to 5 win over the Flossmoor Firebirds. Their success came by way of a total team effort. They never trailed in any game, a testament to their ability to get hits and move runners along and score runs. That along with some great pitching and solid defense was our key to a successful weekend. It was our first tournament of the year and we hope we can continue to build on this experience.
"I’m so proud of the 10u Tribe team,” said coach Ken Elwood. “I usually don't get to coach these kids because I help coach the 12u team, but I had the chance this weekend and had a blast. Great kids and great parents. Look out, here comes Portage Baseball!”
