Portage Track & Field in Action Against Chesterton & Merrillville

In Boys' Track & Field action last night at home, Portage swept both Chesterton & Merrillville with a complete team effort to extend their record to 5-1.

Leading the way for the Indians with overall first place finishes were:

the 4x800 relay team of Max Zmija, David Clegg, Jeff Craig & Cory Lamping
the 4x100 relay team of Jake Dixon, Detrek Suggs, Othie Freeny & Jeron Blake
the 4x400 relay team of Alex Becker, Detrek Suggs, Othie Freeny, & Jeron Blake.
Max Zmija in the 3200 run
Othie Freeny in the 300 Hurdles
And Alvin Best in the 400 Dash

The Lady Indians defeated Chesterton 67 65, but lost to Merrillville 68 64 in track & field action on Tuesday night. It was a tight meet back and forth, with some outstanding performances. The Indians were once again led by Tori Bliss with wins in the shot and discus. Tori set a new PR in the disc with her toss of 148 feet and 2 inches. Other good performances were turned in by Paige Pizer & Megan Cassidy in the 2 mile, Katie Engel in the Pole Vault, and Danielle Randle El in the 100 & 300 hurdles. The team is now 14 7 overall with a 3 3 record in the D.A.C. The Lady Indians will return to action next Tuesday here at Portage v. the Crown Point Bulldogs. Come out and support them!
