"Sparklers" gymnastics team - level 3 and up
Fall classes begin the week of September 6. Meets at PHSE - Team participation is at the discretion of Head Coach. Team participation requires a YMCA membership. Level 3: Primary Plus $35, Primary $50; Level 4: Primary Plus $42, Primary $60

Cheer and Hip Hop

Beginner Cheer

Basic cheers and moves will be learned. Cheerleaders will perform at YMCA basketball games which are played on Saturdays. Open to ages 5-15 years. Groups will be divided by ages in class. Class starts September 28 and goes through December 18. Class meets every Wednesday, time to be announced. Fees per 12 week session are $42 for Primary Plus, $60 Pimary and $120 for others. These fees can be paid in 2 installments. First installment due September 28 of $21, $30, or $60. Second installment due November 2.

Hip Hop

This dance style is fun and energetic! Flexibility and fast paced dancing together with rhythm makes hip hop a fun form of exercise! Routines will be performed during basketball games which are played on Saturdays. Hip Hop will be divided into 2 age groups, 7-11 and middle school. This is a 12 week class which will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from September 28 through December 18. Ages 7-11 will meet from 6:15 - 7:15 pm and middle school will meet from 7:15 - 8:15 pm. Must have 5 students to run class. Fees for 12 week session are $84 for Primary Plus, $120 Primary, $240 for others. Fees can be paid in two installments due September 28 of $42, $60, or $120. Second installment due November 2.

Just For Fun (ages 3-5)

Register Now! Mondays, 11:45 am - 12:45 pm. Stories, songs, crafts and games. Parent participation is not required. Class runs monthly. Primary Plus $14, Primary $20, Others $40.

Preschool Academy

Register your preschooler for the 2010-2011 school year now! Don't delay, spots are limited! $25 registration fee holds your spot for each academy. Must have a minimum of a primary YMCA membership.

Pre-K Academy
Must be 4 by August 1, 2010. Children 1 year away from Kindergarten will grow socially, physically and academically and become prepared for kindergarten. Class meets M/W/F, 9 - 11:30 am or 12:30 - 3:00 pm. Monthly fee $67.50 Primary Plus, $75 Primary

New Pre-K Academy (4 days)
Must be 4 by August 1, 2010. 2 classes only- meets Monday through Thursday 9 - 11:20 am or 12:30 - 3:00 pm. Monthly fee $90 for Primary Plus, $100 for Primary

Junior Academy Must be 3 by August 1, 2010
Grow socially in a positive, fun environment while introducing academics. Participants must be fully potty trained to attend class. Class meets Tuesday and Thursday, 9-11 am or 12-2 pm. Monthly fee $45 Primary Plus, $50 Primary. School begins the week of September 6, 2010

Aquatics at PHSW Pool

Progressive Swim Lessons
Our teaching method enables participants to develop lifelong skills. Our low student to instructor ratio allows each child to proceed at their own pace. Each class is 30 minutes in length on a monthly schedule. A YMCA Primary Membership at minimum is required.

Open Swim
Bring your family and friends to enjoy an evening at the pool. This is unstructured swim time for members to play, exercise or practice swimming skills. You can bring your own water toys (no snorkels or rafts) and spend time getting to know and enjoy our safe environment. Children under the age of ten must have adult supervision on deck while children age six and under must have direct adult supervision and contact in the water. Open Swim hours are Monday through Friday from 6-8:45 pm. Open swim is free to Portage YMCA membrs, $2 for others or $5 per family.

Teens

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is back! Girls on the Run is an initiative started by a teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina to offer girls aged 10-14 the opportunity to grow personally and comfortably while learning about healthy lifestyles. The program will be 8 weeks long and will train the participants to run in a non-competitive 5k race on Saturday, October 30, 2010, with other Girls on the Run programs from Northwest Indiana. Registration will begin in early August 2010. Program Dates will be September 14 through November 4.

YMCA Leader's Club
The Portage Township YMCA is in search of youth who want to make an impact with their peers and their community. We are looking for youth who would be interested in having a say in what happens in Teen programing at the YMCA. We're looking for youth who want to plan teen nights, fundraise to take fun field trips, volunteer in the community, and much more! We are looking to start a YMCA Leader's Club group at the Portage Township YMCA this fall. Please contact Amber Morris for further questions at amber@ymcaofportage.org

ROCK
Afternoons ROCK in Indiana will be rockin' at the YMCA this fall! Two cohorts to come from September - December! This program is offered to 10-14 year olds in the Portage Township School Corporation (select schools at select times). ROCK educates youth in a fun environment about the dangers of legal and illegal street drugs, while providing life & leadership skills, snacks, recreation activities, and homework help. Teen Fitness
A four week class for students 12-14 years old. The program starts the first Monday of every month. The class will focus on the Cybex weight training equipment and cardiovascular machines. Upon graduation from this program the participants will be allowed to workout at the YMCA on their own with valid membership. There is a maximum of six students per session, so sign up early. Four week session fee: $17.50 for Primary Plus, $25 for Primary, and $50 for others.

Youth Sports

Flag Football (ages 5-7) and Outdoor Soccer (ages 3-8)
August 30 - October 16. Practices one night a week with games played on Saturdays

Youth Basketball (ages 3-12)
October 25 - December 18. Register September 7. Practices one night a week with games played on Saturdays

Indoor Soccer (ages 3-10)
January 4 - February 13. Practices one night a week with games on Saturdays. Youth sports class fees: $26 Primary Plus, $36 Primary, $72 Non-members

Volleyball Camp (ages 10-14)
September 20 - October 20, Monday and Wednesday 6-7 pm. $18 Primary Plus, $25 Primary, $50 Others

Church Basketball League
Thursdays 6-10 pm. September 23 through November 4, $175 per team

Taekwondo (ages 6-13)
Tuesday and Thursday 4-5 pm. First month $75 for all. Cost includes ATA Membership and Gi. Continuing monthly fees $35 Primary Plus, $50 Primary, $100 non-members

Adult Racquetball Doubles League
$25 for members and non-members. Begins September 20

Adult Dodgeball
Tuesday evenings, November 2 through December 7. $10.50 Primary Plus, $15 Primary and $30 for others

Events

Cops for a Cure- 5K Run and 5K Family Walk
Saturday, September 18- Race begins at the Portage Township YMCA at 7:30 am. Pick up your registration forms at the YMCA. Walk-in registrations begin at 6:30 am. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Flora Ryan's name, a Portage police officer diagnosed with breast cancer

10th Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving morning- November 25, 7:30 am 5K Run/Walk and 1K youth run. Race beings and ends at the Portage Township YMCA. Registration forms will be available mid September.

Lunch and Learn
Interested in going back to college or starting a new career path which requires a college degree? Indiana Wesleyan will be providing a lunch and learn on July 27, from noon - 1 pm at the Portage Township YMCA. Programs are designed to serve and develop working adults. Please RSVP to Lisa Spurr at lisa.spurr@indwes.edu before 5:00 pm July 26th. Open to the Public.

Lake County Steelers- YMCA Family Night
Come out for some summertime fun and watch the Lake County Steelers, 2010 Midstates Football Team on July 24 at 5:00 pm at Willowcreek Middle School. YMCA Summer Day Camp Halftime Entertainment, YMCA promotions, entry to event discounted for YMCA members with membership ID and much more.
