Myers Elementary
Fifth grade students at Myers Elementary created Autobiography Cereal Box projects where they designed and created their own cereal brand based on their lives. Students worked hard to describe their favorite foods, bands, and snack, came up with quotes that related to their lives, and even wrote a short summary of family, friends, and future goals.

Showing off their colorful cereal boxes are Tyler Curylo, Hannah Smith, Alannah Sweeney, Kemon Randolph, Eric Mills and Melina Tinoco.

Business Professionals of America at PHS
Business Professionals of America at Portage High School is off to an amazing start to the school year.

In June, Nate Partin spent a week in Indianapolis, Indiana learning his new duties as a state officer. In July, school sponsor Lisa Melendez became the board chair for the Indiana Association of Business Professionals of America and finally in September, BPA took over running the café in the media center. Proceeds from the sales of the café will go towards paying for the state trip to Indianapolis in March and for any student that qualifies to go to nationals, which this year is in Dallas, Texas.

This school year, Ms. Melendez is excited about the turn out that came out for the call out meeting in August and looks forward to working on the board and watching Nate change into an amazing leader.

BPA is the leading co-curricular activity in America with over 1000 competitions for student to compete in after learning the material in business related classes.

PHS World Language
One point of good news for the World Language department is that we have made a record profit for the WLHS from our fund raiser this year. The money will go toward FL field trip costs as well as items needed for the classrooms, including class sets of dictionaries. The money also funds our scholarship program for students who study abroad. Finally, funds are used every year to host our WLHS Induction Ceremony. We are truly grateful to the whole Portage community for supporting our fund raiser year after year. In the French classes... French 2 is engaged in a unit on soccer in Europe. The vocabulary centers on soccer related items, team vocabulary, etc., and the new grammar is talking about the near future to say what we're going to do. This is a new verb tense for French 2. French 3 and 4 are working on a unit that centers on TV and the media. The culture is focused on media and TV channels in the French-speaking part of Luxembourg. They will be writing pressure skits later this week which they will present to the class. French 4 will be doing additional research on Luxembourg to present to the French 3 students.
