Myers Elementary
Students in Mr. Phil Dietrich’s Reading classes were visited by author John Mitchell, who’s written multiple children’s books. Mr. Mitchell, whose granddaughter is in 5th grade at Myers’, spoke to students about the process of writing a book. He described the process of generating an idea, identifying the need for a particular type of book, identifying a target market, and writing and revising the book itself. He also covered the basics of getting a book published.
The students were captivated by Mr. Mitchell’s book, George and Smokey, which is about the true story of a cat getting trapped and the unlikely path to its escape. Students also had plenty of questions for Mr. Mitchell once his presentation was complete. Thanks to Mr. Mitchell for visiting us!!
Saylor Elementary
1st Grade students in Ms. Meiss' class, did a virtual dissection today. Students swiped away on a virtual owl pellet, each swipe revealed part of a mouse. Next, they categorized and labeled the parts, on the right side of the Smart TV. It was a great hands on experience, reinforcing their current science lesson.
