Portage to Face Off Against Crown Point in State Football Tournament Opener

The Portage High School Indians will travel to Crown Point to take on the Bulldogs in the sectional opener of the 5A state football tournament, which will begin on Friday, October 22.

Sectional play begins on Friday, Oct. 22, but with six seven-team sectionals, six teams have picked up a bye and will play on the road on Oct. 29 in the sectional semifinal round. Those teams are: Jennings County in Class 5A, Sectional 8; East Noble in Class 4A, Sectional 11; New Castle in Class 4A, Sectional 13; Indianapolis Northwest in Class 4A, Sectional 14; Rushville in Class 3A, Sectional 22 and; Union County in Class 2A, Sectional 29.

Forty sectional champions will be crowned on Friday, November 5. Regional games will be played Friday, November 12, and semi-states on Friday, November 19.

Class 5A – Sectional 1 (8 teams)

  • Game 1: Portage at Crown Point.
  • Game 2: Munster at Lake Central.
  • Game 3: East Chicago Central at Valparaiso.
  • Game 4: Merrillville at Chesterton.

Semifinals

  • Game 5: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2.
  • Game 6: Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4.

Championship

  • Game 7: Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6.
