Portage Softball Team Ranked #5 in RSN Weekly Top Ten

(Update: Region Sports Network has updated their list, and Portage is now ranked fifth, as opposed to sixth.)

The Portage High School softball team jumped from the previously un-ranked to fifth overall in Region Sports Network's Top Ten Weekly Rankings of teams in Northwest Indiana.

The poll, marked for the week of April 9, showed the Indians leapfrog over the Kankakee Valley Kougars, Lowell Red Devils, Munster Muustangs, Hebron Hawks, and the Chesterton Trojans to overtake the fifth spot. The rest of the Top Ten includes La Porte, Crown Point, Andrean, and Lake Central.

You can see the full list here, and check out the Indians’ excerpt below:

5. Portage Indians (5-2; Last Week: NR)
Here's a team that probably should have been in the poll last week. The Indians split a double-header with Indianapolis power Secina Saturday winning 7-4 and losing 4-0 after a week where they didn't find much resistance. The Indians' posted 10-0 wins over Valparaiso and Michigan City last week. Kiley Jones pitched a one hit shutout and Kaitlin Doud added a no-hitter. Portage is also the only team to defeat #7 Hebron this season.
