Portage Soccer Club Week Two Results: Red Hots and Reds Post Wins!

It was a cold, windy and rainy Saturday afternoon in the region.

In Portage, the Rascals(10) managed to squeeze in about 15 minutes of play before the weather became unbearable, as the temperature dropped into the the 30's and the rain came down horizontally. The rain let up, but still left the cold, as the Portage Reds(U10) defeated their opponents 4-3.

As for the Portage Red Hots (U12 Girls), our girls had a tough, tough weekend but they played well. Saturday was in Hobart with high winds, slashing rain and sleet, temps hovering around 30 degrees without a windchill. It was cold enough to make your limbs numb, in fact, the girls came off the field in tears after the game, bruised and bloody from our fight. BIG shout out to the entire team for the awesome game, sticking with it when the weather was miserable. Goals by Cailee Hodges after getting elbowed in the lip, giving her a pretty good gash and swelling and second goal by Kailey Holmquist with a final score of 4-2, Hobart win.

On Sunday, the Red Hots also played Hebron, another tough game. The girls played a strong game, lots of defensive saves and shots on goal but the final score was 2-1, Hebron win. Portage goal by Kandice Kuypers with the center pass assist from Kailey Holmquist.

The Cruzers (U8) battled the Valpo Stars on Sunday, celebrating the return of Emmett Monroe and Trent Delliquadri, making it a full squad of twelve at the game. It was a very evenly matched, exciting game. Dylan Butterfield delivered a solid game defensively, however the Cruzers struggled to get going offensively. Valpo managed to squeak in a couple goals, giving them a 2-0 win.

Also, on Sunday, the second match saw the Rascals face a very strong Valpo Storm team. Rascals showed a never give up attitude, with a courageous performance from CJ Imhoff in the field, with Nick Cain and Olivia Gichuhi as goalies. The young team has officially begun their soccer "journey."

Other game results are still coming in.
