Portage Public Safety Announcement for January 6, 2014

city of portagePublic Safety Announcement: Portage Township Schools have called off school for tomorrow January 7th!! Additionally, Mayor Snyder has declared a State of Emergency for the City of Portage after conferring with his Public Safety Officials. Our plows will be still be out and the main roads are looking good. Approximately 60-65% of the residential areas are done, but these drivers are working 12 hour shifts and are exhausted so please bear with us as they work to clear the snow.

Please do not shovel or plow your own snow into the streets as it creates more work for them. We are NOT telling residents they can't drive. We know many of you work and have to get to your jobs or possibly get needed supplies. However, we are HIGHLY recommending that you do not drive if you do not absolutely have to.

I'd also recommend that you keep a faucet open to slow drip indoors to prevent frozen pipes, especially in mobile homes. Please check on your elderly neighbors and call us if you have a concern. Stay Safe and Stay Warm!! If I may borrow a previously used phrase....We are Portage Strong!!
