As of Monday, May 2, the Portage Department of Parks & Recreation will hold the following office hours: Monday 8:30am – 8:00pm, Tuesday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm
Now Accepting Ads for Summer Program Guide
For just $175, you will receive a quarter-page, one color, 5” x 3.5” advertisement in our summer guide! Want a bigger ad? For just $300, we will double the size of your ad to a 5” x 7” half-page. Your financial support will not only provide exposure of your business to a wide range of potential customers, it will also offset the cost of the program guide, freeing up these funds to be spent on programs and facilities. Guide is set for a late May distribution and will cover June, July & August. Over 6,000 copies are printed and distributed around Portage Township. To be part of this effort, call us at 219-762-1675. Adult Yoga Classes
On Monday (co-ed) from 5:15-6:15pm, Wednesday (women’s) from 6-7pm, Thursday (coed) from 5:15-6:15 or 6:30-7:30pm, and Saturday (co-ed) from 9am-10:15am-11:15am. Cost for classes is $30 per month for once/week, $35 per month for twice/week attendance or $50 per month for unlimited attendance. All classes are for beginner/intermediate levels, adults age 18+ at the Portage Yacht Club. All Saturday classes are held at the Portage Lake Front Pavilion. Please bring a towel or mat to sit on, dress comfortably and bring water.
Rocketry Workshop presented by Action Science
It’s Rocket science for kids in our hands-on exploratory workshop for sky-climbing enthusiasts. We’ll explore Newton’s Laws of Physics and how they apply to rocketry and have a blast learning the science behind blasting off! Each participant will build a real model rocket to take home and we’ll go outside and launch several types of Action Science rockets. The Safety Code of Model Rocketry will also be taught. The instructor is Susan Peterson. Saturday, May 7th from 1:00-2:30pm. $17 per child. Ages 8 and up Minimum 10/Max 25 (pre-register). Woodland Park Blue Spruce Room
Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit & Run
Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit & Run is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at Imagination Glen at 4pm. For kids 7-14 years old, this free skills competition provides boys and girls the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. Winners can advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championship event at the 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star game. Register at Woodland Park prior to event. Birth Certificates required. No metal spikes allowed.
Mother and Son Dance
Friday, May 20th from 6:00-9:00pm at Woodland Park

$35 per couple and $17 for each additional child
Co-ed SAND Volleyball League
B-Division plays on Tuesday nights, A-Division plays on Thursday nights at Imagination Glen. Maximum 6 teams in each division. Teams play two 3-game matches per night and will be assigned matches to score. Season consists of 18-match schedule, beginning May 24 & 26, followed by tourney. Register by May 13. Cost is $275 per team and all players must be 18 or older and out of high school.
Co-ed SAND Volleyball Tournament
Round-robin style tournament limited to the first 8 teams to register. Saturday, June 4 from 10am-4pm (depending on # of teams). Teams play 6v6. Tourney held at Imagination Glen for ages 18+ (must be out of high school. Cost is $90 per team. Download a roster from www.ci.portage.in.us/parks
Summer Child Care!
Are you or someone you know looking for a safe and fun place for your children to go this summer? Look no further, the Woodland Park Summer Camps begin the day after school is out, June 14, and run all summer long Monday through Friday. Our staff of highly trained individuals will make sure the campers get the most out of their summer. They will be teaching arts and crafts, indoor as well as outdoor games, hiking and nature activities and a whole-lot-more!
