Portage Marine Corps JROTC had a busy and productive weekend. First, the PHS MCJROTC Drill Team had a solid showing at the Marmion Academy Drill Meet in Aurora, IL on 20 February 2016. The Armed Duet consisting of Cadet Major Jordan McDaniel and Cadet Staff Sergeant Zach Dziubla captured 1st Place against stiff competition. The Armed Regulation Squad and the Unarmed Exhibition Platoon each secured a 3rd Place trophy.
Cadets from PHS MCJROTC also supported the Indiana Special Olympics on 20 February 2016 by participating in the annual "Polar Bear Plunge" at Valparaiso University. The Portage's 4-cadet team consisted of Cadet Second Lieutenant LeiAzia Irving and Cadet Sergeants Chris McHugh, Amber Nelson and Rae Nelson. In addition to braving the 40-degree water the PHS cadets also presented a $500.00 donation to the Indiana Special Olympics.
