Portage Life in the Spotlight: Megan Ymans

Portage Life in the Spotlight: Megan Ymans

This year Megan Ymans expanded her culinary abilities to the city of Portage by establishing a small business titled, ‘Nothing Fancy Eats and Treats’. Ymans’ small business creates all types of sweet treats and baked goods for a fair price. This newly established business was created due to Ymans passion for culinary productions.

“I’ve always been a baker, since the day I could remember. Plus, I’ve always had a sweet tooth. When I was little, I made dinners for my family and would always enjoy baking something for a family event. When I used to work, I loved bringing baked goods and treats into work. I’ve just always enjoyed feeding people, it makes me truly happy,” said Ymans.

Ymans’ passion for cooking and baking stemmed from watching the Food Network since the age of nine. Since adolescence, Ymans has always kept that passion and held it close to her. So much so that she always worked in the food and restaurant industry.

Before settling down in Portage, Ymans used to live in Illinois and worked at MeatHeads Burgers and Fries and prior to that a pizza restaurant. Ymans became a Northwest Indiana resident due to her wanting a new environment and a home closer to where her husband worked. Ymans likes having her own small business because she gets to set her own schedule and have the ability to not miss a moment with her six year old, Eli.

At her at home bakery, Ymans offers cupcakes, lemon bars, cake pops, tiered cakes, oreo truffles, cookies, and so much more. When comparing all of the different treats Ymans cooks up, she considers her favorite treat to bake to be the tiered cakes. She enjoys baking them the most because she loves the assembly aspect and seeing how all the different tiers come together to make something so beautiful and tasty.

Ymans’ bakery is based out of her home so she can be a stay at home mom. With her child and her bakery, Ymans’ life has been quite an adventure, but she loves every minute of it. For six years Ymans has been a stay at home mom and hasn’t looked back since. In her opinion, the best part about working from her home is that she is not missing a minute of time with Eli and being there for every single moment no matter big or small.

“Since I got pregnant, I decided to be a stay at home mom. I wanted to be able to be there for everything and I have. I like being able to help Eli out whenever he needs it, it just was the easier option for our family. I really do love being a stay at home mom,” Ymans said.

Besides being a small business owner, Ymans spends her time with Eli and her husband, reading books, watching comedy movies, and playing with her three dogs. Ymans fully knows deep down that the best moment of her life has been the birth of Eli and is so happy to have a small partner in crime.

On behalf of her new and flourishing small business, Ymans would like to thank every individual who has supported her in each step and hopes to keep all the sweet treats coming.
