Members of the Portage High School newspaper and yearbook staffs traveled to Ball State University on April 24 for their annual High School Journalism Day. While there, students listened to keynote speaker Bobby Hawthorne, author of “The Radical Write,” give tips on strong writing and reporting skills. They also attended three workshops gain valuable writing, design and photography advice. Attending the event were juniors Mary Clancy, Sam Smith and Hallie Vanover, and sophomores Taylor Calhoun, Grace Steorts and Becca Wireman.
Additionally, members of the staffs entered the Ball State Journalism Day Contests and brought home the following awards:
