pow-wow-radio-logoJune 4, 2013 - Pow Wow Radio, the Portage High School student-run radio station, will have a live broadcast of the 2013 Softball 4A State Championship Game on Saturday, June 8. The game pits Portage (24-6) against Franklin Central (21-5).

Pregame coverage will begin at 6 p.m. CDT with the first pitch slated for 6:30 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. The broadcast can be heard by visiting www.powwowradio.net.

Portage’s road to the state championship included a 2-1 nine-inning victory over Huntington North in the semistate championship and a 2-0 victory over Northridge in the semistate semifinal on June 1.

The Indians finished fourth in the Duneland Athletic Conference in the regular season before rapping off six straight postseason wins to reach the state championship. Head coach Lisa Hayes led the team to sectional, regional and semistate titles in just her second year at the helm.

This marks Portage’s first appearance in the state championship since 2000, when the Indians defeated Decatur Central 2-0.

Seniors Brandon Vickrey and Collin Czilli will call the action on Pow Wow Radio. At the time of this release, Pow Wow Radio is the only broadcast outlet from Northwest Indiana on the IHSAA approved list to broadcast the state finals.

The station is in its fourth year in existence and has over 500 likes on its Facebook page, which can be found by visiting www.facebook.com/powwowradio.
