Portage High School senior Marc Biggs is a true “expert” in his field, and he has the certifications to prove it.
Biggs recently earned five Microsoft certifications, one of them being an “expert” certification. He achieved the highest certification scores in the state, which will allow him to compete in Microsoft PowerPoint at the national level.
He is one of the few students in the state and the only at Portage to earn the expert certification.
Biggs became interested in earning these Microsoft certifications after taking a digital citizenship class with business teacher Marjorie Slamkowski his freshman year. He said she was a “very big role model” for him, and he decided to continue taking business classes.
Biggs also competes with the Business Professionals of America group at the high school and serves as their vice president.
“I realized how good I was at taking the certification tests, and I wanted to move further into the competition level,” Biggs said.
Ultimately, Biggs hopes that having the certifications will help him as he applies for internships and jobs.
Next school year, Biggs will study civil engineering at Purdue Northwest.
