On Saturday, December 7, Portage High School students competed in over twenty Business Professionals of America (BPA) regional contests, which take classroom topics and convert them into individual and team judged competitions against ten other Northwest Indiana high schools.

Chapter President Alyssa Mitchell says “BPA has been such an amazing and educational experience that has allowed me to grow both as a competitor and leader in my own community. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for my team (at state)!”   In addition, first-year BPA member Logan Reese says “My experience with BPA has undoubtedly been terrific. It has been and continues to be a great opportunity for everyone to make friends, compete in your chosen subjects, and learn topics you actually have an interest in.”

Alyssa, Logan and ten other Portage students now have the ability to qualify for the State Leadership Conference held in Indianapolis in March 2020.  If successful, these students will earn the right to attend the National Leadership Conference held in Washington D.C. in May 2020.  The 2020 state qualifiers are Harbir Aujla (Advanced  Computer Applications), Kayla Cardenas (Medical Office Procedures), Ethan Fragoso (Video Production), Adam Fritz (Global Marketing), Lilliana Hassinger (Economic Research, Finance), Trevor Hufford (Business Law, Global Marketing), Anthony Maletta (Fundamental Computer Applications, Business Management), Alyssa Mitchell (Business Law, Business Management), Adrian Panasewicz (Computer Technology), Spencer Perry (Global Marketing), Logan Reese (Business Law, Economic Research) and Savanna Simpson (Medical Applications, Video Production).

If you know any of these students, be sure to wish them well as they compete in 2020 for the opportunity to win at State and Nationals.
