Portage High School Participates in 2014 Red Ribbon Week

PHSCrestRed Ribbon Week is a national initiative promoted by the National Family Partnership for a Drug Free America. It is a short term focus centered on raising public awareness of the risks associated with alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. During this time schools, families, and the public work together to promote prevention and offer healthy alternatives.

Juniors and seniors in Mr. Snodgrass' health class are currently studying the risks involved with alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. Students are learning the effects of these products. Group discussions, textbook readings, and magazine articles all center on the fact that choosing to experiment with these items can affect a child's body, mind, family, and friends. The importance of practicing healthy lifestyle choices is also discussed.

At the conclusion of this unit students will be given an opportunity to show what they have learned through a variety of projects. Students will work both independently and within small groups to show understanding of the importance of this units focus.
