Interact Students joined hundreds of volunteers from organizations across the region to help pack over 50,000 participant bags for the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon which takes place on Saturday, October 8 in Chicago. Many volunteers stayed until the end to complete over six volunteer service hours.

Interact Club is an international organization sponsored by Rotary International to help students ages 12-18 take action and make a difference in the community through promoting international understanding, developing leadership skills and to have fun and make new friends from around the globe. Interact’s motto, like Rotary’s, is “Service Above Self.”

PHS-Interact-Packathon-2017_02The Portage High School Interact Club participates in and sponsors service learning projects throughout the school year. During the 2016-2017 school year, Portage High School’s Interact Club donated to several local organizations including the Salvation Army (Portage, IN), the Portage Township Food Pantry, Gabriel’s Horn and Riley Children’s Hospital. Portage High School Interact also participated in multiple service projects including the 2017 United Way Youth Day of Caring at Taltree Arboretum where students helped ready the arboretum for the spring and summer months.

All Portage High School students are encouraged to join Interact Club. We meet every Wednesday in the Portage High School West Building in room B25 from 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm. Students don’t have to attend every meeting, but do have to clock a certain number of service hours per year to remain an active member.
