Portage High School French Classes Serve Other Portage Township Schools

Portage-Indian-HeadAll year long, the students in Madame Flynn’s French 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes have been collecting Box Tops for Education, Labels for Education, Tyson Chicken Labels, and My Coke Rewards. Every quarter Mme Flynn sends the collected coupons over to the Administration Building, and Dr. Debra Dudek then gives them to the Principals in the K-8 buildings. The French students began collecting these last year as a way to help raise money for the elementary and middle schools, and as a way of giving back to the community. Many students’ families still clip the box tops, but because their children are no longer in a K-8 school, they feel they have nowhere to donate them to. By collecting them at the high school level, these students can give back to the schools that put them on the path to their success as current high school students.

This year, Mme Flynn’s students donated about 3903 box tops, which raised about $390.30. In addition, one student’s mother donated 5000 Labels for Education! In addition, about 100 bottle caps and box coupons were turned in for the My Coke Rewards Program! Mme Flynn would like to personally and publicly thank all of the students and their families for their generous hearts and spirit of cooperation and love for the community, especially for the younger children as we all work together to give them the best resources possible for their education!

We will be donating all of the coupons returned during this 4th quarter of the school year in loving memory of Mrs. Melody Logsdon, the music teacher from Saylor and South Haven, who tragically passed away during Spring Break. The French students redoubled their efforts to bring in as many coupons as possible in an effort to pay special tribute to a teacher who worked so hard to raise funds for the programs in her school. Mrs. Logsdon was the “Box Top Queen,” and an inspiration to Mme Flynn and her students! We hope that our donation of box tops and other coupons helps preserve and continue her legacy of giving back to the children of our community!

We look forward to collecting and donating even more box tops and other coupons next year! If anyone in the community has any box tops or other coupons that give back to schools but doesn’t know what to do with them, you can donate them at the PTS Administration Building or send them to Mme Flynn at the high school!
