Portage Fire Department Receives Equipment Upgrades from Donations

The Portage Fire Department has recently received its first Stryker Power Pro Cot. The funds to purchase it from Stryker Medical were donated by NLMK in the Port of Indiana. The amount donated was $12,200. The new cot works on a Dewalt rechargeable battery and can lift a max of 700 lbs.

We at PFD are grateful for this device in attempt to reduce and eventually eliminate injuries to back, shoulders, and arms of our personnel.

The other donation we are very happy to announce is assistance from Cargill in the Port of Indiana for a donation in the amount of $538. This donation allowed us to purchase two Welsh Allyn 690 thermometers. They are mounted in our ambulances. The thermometers allow us to take adult oral, adult axillary, and pediatric axillary readings.

The new thermometers reduce chance of cross contamination, allow continual monitoring of temperature if a patient is hypothermic (cold related emergency), and more accurately in line with same temperature taken by local emergency rooms.
