Portage Comes Closer to 250 Club with Boy’s Tennis Win, Volleyball and Girls/Boys XC

The Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team improved their record to 9-5 with a 4-1 victory over Chesterton. No 1 singles Jeff Craig won 6-1, 6-2 to improve his season record to 10-4. No 2 singles senior Kyle Tampier won 6-1, 6-0. No 3 singles Sophmore Patrick Derr won 6-3, 6-2. Zach Lundy and Joey Todd won 6-3, 6-3 at no 2 doubles. Parth Patel and Shub Multani lost a tough 6-3, 7-6 match at No 1 doubles.

In volleyball action last night at Chesterton, the girls jumped out to a quick 2 games to 0 lead but then lost in a heartbreaker 10-15 in game 5. Alicia Ciesielski had 13 kills and 4 aces. Tina Golden had 17 assists.

The girls cross country team dropped two DAC races last night against Valpo and Lake Central. Paige Pizer was once again Portage's top runner, placing 3rd. Megan Cassidy stepped up for the short handed Indians to place 15th and was our 5th runner. The girls hope to regroup and run well this weekend at the Culver Invitational.

The Boys Cross Country Team went 1-1 last night against Lake Central and Valparaiso. They beat Lake Central 17-40, but lost to Valpo 21-36. Their final overall DAC record was 4-3, good enough for 4th place in the standings. There was an outstanding performance by Kyle Forney.

The JV girls’ soccer team lost last night at Chesterton 0-8. The varsity soccer team was rained out last night. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow night at Chesterton at 6:00 PM.
