Portage Celebrates with Family, Friends and Fun on the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is a holiday where Americans from all over the entire country get together with families, friends, and their communities to celebrate freedom and the troops’ dedication.

To celebrate the holiday, people from all over Portage came together at Willowcreek Middle School’s Trumble Field where there was a firework show, a band and many vendors.

Some of the vendors there were Bouncing with Angels, Myers Elementary PSO, Real Life Church, Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream, Portage High School’s Cheerleading team, Snowie, and Leroy’s Hot Stuff. Each vendor was there to either advertise their business or raise money for a group or team.

“Our stand was basically set up to raise funds to sponsor our mission’s trip for our students at Real Life Community Church, and whatever comes in will go to that,” Student Ministries Pastor, Rich Evans said.

At another stand there was the PHS Cheerleading team lead by Coach Nicole Zepeda, selling different snacks and food in hopes to raise money for competitions and new uniforms.

“We wanted to have a fundraiser for the PHS Cheerleaders, and we thought what better way than to get them out in the community,” Zepeda said.

Along with all the vendors was the Snowie truck that has been catering the event since it first began.

“Our favorite thing about coming here year after year is definitely all of the families hanging out. Snowie is probably the coolest thing about summer and we enjoy doing what we do,” Edward Walford said.

Although each of the vendors was there to sell to the community, selling their products was not solely the reason of why they were there.

“It’s all about fun, fun, and more fun. It’s the Fourth of July with the community under the fireworks,” Bouncing with Angels founder, Kamica Thurmond said.
