Portage Bulldawgs Compete in Blue Chip Baseball Tournament

The Portage Bulldawgs, 9U, 10U and 11U, competed in an indoor baseball tournament at the Blue Chip Baseball Sports Center in Lafayette, Indiana, on March 4th, 5th and 6th.

The 9U team competed in the 10U division. They won one game, tied one game and lost two games. Zachary Warchus and Preston Tabor pitched very well for their teams.

The 10U team won their division. They were 5-0 for the weekend. There were eight teams in their division. The entire team played well with Evan Gerike, Zack Fillippo, Christopher Corralez, Jack Dickson and Ronnie Wilkins turning in some great pitching performances for the Bulldawgs. Jack Dickson hit a shot to the centerfield fence to help bring his team to victory in the semi-finals.

The 11U team competed in the 12U division and made it to the championship game. Kenny Clasen hit a grand slam run in the semi-finals to help bring his team to victory. Nick Elwood also hit a two-run homerun in the quarterfinal game to help his team to victory. Jared Osborne, Josh Oliver, Bryce Kissinger, Stephen Szakacs and Nick Elwood turned in good pitching performances.

The fans saw what almost never happens in baseball ~ a triple play. With a runner on first and third, a fly ball was hit to Dakota Fryer. He caught it and threw it to Nick Elwood at first base to double up the runner there. Nick then threw the ball home to Cody Russell who put a great and aggressive tag on the runner for, again, an improbable triple play.
