Portage Baseball Jumps to Third in Region Sports Network’s Weekly Top Ten

The Portage High School baseball team raised one spot to third overall in the Region Sports Network rankings of Northwest Indiana’s top teams for the week of April 10, 2012.

The undefeated Indians leapt over Andrean, who fell from second overall to fourth after losing their first game of the season. Only Crown Point and Lake Central are ahead of Portage in the rankings.

3) Portage (5-0; Last Week: #4)
Well, it had to happen sometime – Portage gave up some runs. While that was inevitable, what has to be a little concerning is that the Indians gave up a combined 14 runs to Lowell and Hanover Central, two teams that aren’t in the Top 10. The Indian offense had more than enough to make up for the runs that were surrendered and with games against LaPorte, EC Central, Merrillville, Clark and Boone Grove ahead, it’s a good week for the Portage pitchers to find their groove once again.
