This award-winning film is based on the diaries of Colin Clark, a young man who worked on the set of "The Prince and the Showgirl" with Monroe in 1957. The film captures Clark's account of what happened between the two during a week they spent together while their movie was on hiatus and Monroe's husband, playwright Arthur Miller, was away.

"My Week with Marilyn" gathered countless nominations, awards and accolades. Actress Michelle Williams, in her role as Marilyn, earned the Golden Globe as Best Actress. She also won Best Actress awards from the Hollywood Film Festival, Independent Spirit Awards and Las Vegas Film Critics Society, among others. She and Kenneth Branagh, who played Laurence Olivier, were nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively. The film earned four nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and seven from the British Academy Film Awards.

Claudia Puig of "USA Today" described that Williams "embodies" Monroe in this role. "Disappearing into the role of the troubled actress, Williams captures the star's breathy voice and distinctive mannerisms while delving a few notches deeper. Ever a chameleon, Williams conveys Monroe's vulnerability and peels back the sexpot image to reveal a woman who is alternately wistful, childlike, funny, needy and wise."
