PHS Weekend Roundup: Jake Dixon Breaks School Record with 378 Rushing Yards, Sarah Dienes Finishes in Top 20 in Regionals

In Friday night football action, your Portage Indians beat Chesterton 34-20. Jake Dixon rushed for 378 yards breaking the school record.

The JV team lost a very close game at home on Saturday 35-37 to Chesterton. Kris Knies threw for 2 touchdown passes and had over 200 yards passing. Jeron Blake had 3 touchdowns and over 200 yards of total offense. The defense forced 2 turnovers.

The girls’ soccer team lost 0-2 to Mishawaka Marian on Saturday. (overall 5-8-1, DAC 2-3)

The boys’ soccer team played Highland at home on Saturday and won 2-0. Brendon Swindle and Ben Dvorscak each with a goal. Dean Anderson and Nate Johnson 1 assist and Allen Barrett had 4 saves. (overall 9-3-1, DAC 3-2)

The JV team lost to highland 0-2. Austin Lee had 3 saves.

Sarah Dienes shot 90 in regionals on Saturday. She was in the top 20 of individuals. Congratulations and great job Sarah!

The varsity volleyball team traveled to Crown Point this past weekend. They fell short against Crown Point (10-25, 24-26), New Prairie (11-25, 12-25), and Michigan City (21-25, 25-21, 10-15), but came out on top against Merrillville (25-20, 25-19). Haley Snyder and Alicia Ciesielski led the team in kills, while Tina Golden led in assists.

The girls cross country team traveled to Culver Military Academy this past weekend to race most of the top ranked teams in the state. The varsity finished 17th out of 30 teams, led by Paige Pizers 21st place finish in a time of 18:56, which is the 2nd fastest time in Portage history. She was followed by Christina Delturco, Abby Trader, Rachel Foreman, and Terra Norman. Megan Cassidy knocked 50 seconds off of her personal best time to be our 6th runner, while Bri Cipich also ran a personal best to round out the team effort. Our JV team finished 8th out of 33 teams, led by new personal best efforts from Salina McConnell and Janee Escobedo. Keanna Crum, Paige Mulle, and Raquel Cervantes completed our scoring five.
