The Portage High School girls basketball team kicked off their 2013-14 season with a 67-20 victory over visiting Hammond Thursday night.
Alexis Johnson led a balanced effort with 16 points. Kaitlyn Dowd chipped in 10 points and Kaitlyn Steers had nine.
The Lady Indians took a 34-8 lead into halftime and outscored Hammond 31-12 over the final two quarters.
Diamond Fields led the Hammond effort with nine points.
Portage also won the JV game, 51-9. Bianca Vazquez paced the Lady Indians in that one, netting 11 points in the season opening win.
