PHS Girls Softball Wins Sectional, Boys Track Athletes Advance to State

phs-crowdVarsity softball won the sectional title by beating Crown Point on Friday 3-1. On Saturday they beat the Hobart Brickies 6-5.

Portage will host regionals today Portage vs Munster at 5:30. Come out and support your Lady Indians Softball Team!

Boys Track Results from IHSAA Regional Friday.

For the first time in school history, boys track qualified all 3 relays for State, being the 4x800, 4x100 & 4x400.
The 3 relays are currently among state leaders leaders posting some of the fastest times in the State.
Jeron Blake led the way for the Indians. He was Regional Champion in the 100 and is the first Portage athlete to qualify for the State meet in 4 events, being 2 relays and both the 100 & 200 dashes.
Lorenzo Wells is only the 3rd athlete in school history to qualify for state in 3 events, being 2 relays and the 300 hurdles.

For most of the evening Portage was leading the Regional in scores until the final events, when the field caught up and the Indians finished 5th overall in the team standings.

In all, Portage is sending 3 relays and 3 individual athletes on to State this Friday.

Relay team members include:
4x400: David Clegg, Gemel Tribble, Dustin Balboa, Tommy Martin
4x100: Dashun Holmes, Lorenzo Wells, Jared Nieves, Jeron Blake
4x400: David Clegg, Alex Sanchez, Jeron Blake, Lorenzo Wells
In addition, Taylor Sebben (300 hurdles), Danny Mills (110 hurdles), Tyler McCann (Shot Put) and Diondre Griffin (Long Jump) were Regional finalists and scored points towards Indians' team effort.
