PHS: Club 250 Jumps to 72 with Girls XC, Volleyball, Soccer, and Boys’ Tennis Wins

Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team on their 3-2 win over Crown Point for the first time in 8 years!!!! No 1 singles senior Jeff Craig won 6-2, 6-3. No 3 singles sophomore Patrick Derr won 6-4, 6-3. The deciding match was won by the No 1 doubles team of Parth Patel and Shub Multani 7-5, 4-6 and 6-3. Varsity now has a record of 8-4 and 2-2 in conference play.

The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team won 4-0 last night at LaPorte. Carly Bermes had 3 goals for the Indians and Kristen Ashby had 1. Tori Bliss and Michelle Plance had the shut out for the team. (Varsity overall 4-6-1, DAC 2-2) In JV action the girls beat Laporte 3-0. Brooke Jackson with a goal and an assist. Krista Devitt scored a goal. Halee Welp with a goal and an assist. Shelby Bryniarski with 8 saves and her second career shutout.

In volleyball last night, the varsity team played hard but lost to Crown Point 19-25, 20-25, 14-25. (Varsity overall 6-8), (DAC 2-4) After losing the first set, the JV team fought hard in game two and won. In the deciding game, we again fought, but lost by 1 point scores 18-25, 25-24, 14-15. The freshman team lost last night in two matches. Justice Brasseur had amazing sets for the Indians. Kaitlyn Moore also had 3 aces, and Ariella Pearman added 2 kills.

The Portage Boys dominated Michigan City en route to a 16-47 victory, but came up short 33-23 in a tough fought race against Chesterton, last year's state runner-up and a top 5-10 team again this year. Big races came from Anthony Best (3rd place), Robert Blackwell (5th place), Max Zmija (6th), Dustin Balboa (8th), Jacob Thielbar (12th), David Clegg (13th), and Ross Falk (14th). We also had PR's from Clegg, Zmija, Thielbar, Chris Klenk, Arthur Anguiano, Kameron Sorenson, Ryan Hayes, Kendall Golver, Garrett Maples, and Louis Escobedo

The girls cross country team picked up 2 DAC victories last night against Michigan City and Chesterton. Paige Pizer once again led the way with a winning time of 19:31. Abby Trader finished 2nd and Christina Delturco finished 3rd to guarantee the win for Portage. Sierra King and Rachel Foreman finished out the scoring for Portage. The girls next meet is this Saturday at the New Prairie Invitational.
