The Portage High School baseball team is looking to bring skills, motivation, and a love of baseball to area youth this weekend at the Coach Ballgame Sandlot Tour.
This youth baseball camp, hosted at the PHS baseball field on Saturday, September 9 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., is open to kids ages 5-12. Registration is $75 and can be done online at https://www.coachballgame.com/national-sandlot-tour-2024.
The mission of the camp is to get kids to fall in love with baseball. James “Coach Ballgame” Lowe, the camp’s coach, was a 4-year starter at Brown University, where he was a captain and All Ivy League Outfielder. He has spent the last 20 years coaching youth baseball across the country, He now partners with the MLB and PLAY BALL to coach camps and grow the game of baseball.
Coach Ballgame engages kids in the camp through the use of music, poetry, and enthusiasm. During the 3-hour camp, kids will participate in trivia contests, learn various baseball skills, receive awards, and hear stories about Roberto Clemente and Jim Abbott. Coach Ballgame’s goal is to give the kids a fun day while building their character.
There will be a free coaches clinic and parent clinic for adults in the community following the camp.
