PHS Athletics Roundup: Girls Soccer, Girls Golf, Volleyball, and Boys’ Tennis (Updated with Girl’s XC)

The Girls’ Soccer Team ended with a tie against Valpo last night only to lose in a shoot out 4-3. Tori Bliss had 18 saves for the night. Despite the loss this was an outstanding team performance. (Varsity record overall 2-4, 0-2 DAC) JV also suffered a loss to Valpo with a score of 0-5.

Last night the girls’ golf team lost to Crown Point by the score of 211-185. Low scorer was Sarah Dienes. (Team record Varsity 4-3 overall, 0-3 DAC)

Varsity Volleyball lost in 3 matches to Valpo with scores of 6-25, 16-25, 14-25. The team battled back in the second set but came up short. Haley Snyder had 5 aces. (Varsity team record 4-2, 1-1 DAC) Both JV and the freshman team lost last night as well.

The Varisty Boys’ Tennis Team lost 5-0 at state ranked Valpo. The Indians had solid play from both doubles team Shub Mulatni and Parth Patel lost 6-0, 6-4 and Joey Todd and Zach Lundy lost 6-3, 6-2. J.V. lost 4-1 Freshman John Fannin won at No. 2 singles.

Our girls cross country team began the DAC season with a win over Merrillville with a perfect score of 15. Leading the way was Paige Pizer in first, closely followed by teammates Christian Delturco, Sierra King, Rachel Foreman, Abby Trader and Paige Mulle. Portage girls swept the top 6 places and 12 of the top 13. The girls next race is Saturday at the Lafayette Harrison Invitational.
