In what maybe the school’s first team title, Portage won the inaugural Indian Golf Invite by shooting a 336. Jordan Henson shot 80, third overall and Nick Lewis shot 83, fifth overall while Tep Junyanid finished with an 84 and Tyler Gonzalez shot 89.
The girls’ tennis team came in first place at the Hobart Invite on Saturday beating Hobart 4-1, Lake Central 3-2 and New Prairie 5-0. Kacie McGuire was 3-0 in #1 singles, Mandy Haupt 3-0 in #2 singles and Lauren Zack 3-0 in #3 singles. They were all individual trophy winners.
Your 10th ranked Varsity baseball team kept the perfect season alive this weekend, beating Boone Grove 9-4 and Clark 15-1. Zach Thorn, Andrew Brown, and Gabe Acevedo each had multiple hits in the win against Clark, while Ty Kniola pitched a complete game striking out 6.
Travis Marsh struck out 14 Boone Grove players in route to a complete game win. Andrew Brown and David Jercha each had 3 hits, while Justin Newcomb hit a 2 out double to plate 2 runs in the win.
The JV team beat Boone Grove 13-1. Peter Psomadelis 2 for 2 w/ 3 RBI’s, Alex Coates 2 for 2 w/2 RBI’s, Chris Klenk had a grand slam!!!! And Jake Bearss pitched 5 innings giving up only 1 run with 6 strikeouts.
The softball team traveled to Lafayette Harrison but were rained out in the middle of the game. Portage was winning 7-0 in the varsity game. Kaitlin Doud went 2 for 3 with a triple and 4 RBI’s, Kiley Jones went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and also struck out 6 and Haley Hodges went 2 for 2. Annabelle karagias and Rachel Smock each had triples in the JV game. Taylor Mora had a double with 2 RBI’s before the rain hit the team was winning 11-1.
In freshman baseball, the team beat Lowell 18-1. Nick Bell 3 for 3 and scored 5 runs. Conner Lithgow, Daniel Moro, Steven Jolly and Jared Ford each had multiple hits. Jared Ford was the winning pitcher.
Joey Little got 2nd place at the Throwers Invite at Warren Central on Saturday.
