PHS Athletics Roundup: Baseball, Softball Split vs. Lake Central

The varsity baseball team gave the #1 team in the state a scare, but fell to Lake Central 7-4. The Indians pounded out 9 hits on the day. Travis Marsh and Zach Simmons each had a pair of hits, while Gabe Acevedo blasted a 2 run homer over the centerfield wall. Dave Jercha struck out 9 in the loss. Portage returns home to face DAC foe Chesterton on Friday.

The JV team lost 3-5 Sam Schest had a 3 RBI double.

The varsity softball team beat L.C. 5-2. Kiley Jones struck out 5 and only gave up 4 hits to improve to 3-0. Haley Hodges went 2 for 3 with a 2-run homerun. Stephanie Upton and Alexis Johnson each had 2 hits. Upton and Kaitlin Doud each had a double and an RBI.

JV lost 1-0. Taylor Mora had a double, Madie Jercha struck out 4 and Krystle Allison made a spectacular catch in right field.

At the freshman field, the Indians fell to Lake Central 13-6. Nick Bell was 3 for 4 and played outstanding defense. Hunter Kraynak hit a 2-run homerun and Noah Simmons pitched well and had 2 hits.
